This article discusses the use of glass panels to fence pools. There are two types of glass pool fencing Adelaide swimming pool owners can have erected that comply with South Australian pool fence regulations:
- Frameless glass panel pool fencing, and
- Semi frameless glass panel pool fencing.
Swimming pool fence regulations in South Australia specify any boundary fence used as part of the barrier must be at least 1800mm high, with any non boundary fence being at least 1200mm high with a 900mm high non-climbable section at the top.
Glass panel pool fencing is not used on the boundary but to secure the pool from garden areas or the house, so must be a minimum of 1200mm high.
The installation of glass panel pool fencing should only be done by licensed fencing contractors. At Visual Landscape Gardening we don’t take short cuts when installing glass pool fencing, unlike many Adelaide fencing companies we have come across do.
All glass fencing around pools is erected on a concrete footing 300mm deep and 400-500mm wide. If large format concrete pavers are used around the pool, the pavers above the footing are mortared for extra strength. This procedure ensures that there will be no movement, particularly when clay based soils expand and contract throughout the years.
Holes for the spiggots that hold the glass panels are core drilled through the pavers into the concrete footing to provide the strongest fixing system possible.
