Complete Front Garden Makeover with Feature Cobblestone Driveway & Garden Beds.
A retired couple with Mediterranean style home at Stirling wanted to complete their garden renovations with a makeover to the front.
Existing pebbles, gravel and slate was removed before excavation of 150mm to set up the levels for the natural turf, paths and driveway.
A sandy loam base was compacted from the gate to the front door on which ‘Male Sterile Kikuyu’ instant lawn was laid with slate steppingstone inserts, wet laid on a concrete base.
To prepare for the paved driveway and path areas, as part of the front garden makeover, a 100mm thick re-enforced concrete base was poured. In keeping with the homes character, imported Italian Porphyry Filletti cobblestones were chosen to be wet laid using a grey mortar and grout. When choosing driveway pavers, consideration of the vehicles weight driving on them needs to be taken into account.
A dry stack garden wall was constructed with ag-drain and back filled.
All garden beds were treated with a quality organic loam and planted out with a variety of plants that would harmonise with existing planted areas and colour scheme.
To keep the plants strong and healthy, especially during the hot dry summer months, a drip irrigation system was installed to the instant natural turf and to the garden beds.
To finish off this Adelaide Hills front garden makeover, a wrought iron gate was custom made, with the lower section echoing the design found on the Juliet balconies of the house.
The gates were automated, controlled by a handheld remote controller.
Although wet laid paving of this magnitude is a time-consuming process, especially with rain interruptions Stirling and the Adelaide Hills is well known for during Winter, the result made it all worthwhile as the team of paving contractors and landscapers from Visual Landscape Gardening had created a picturesque entrance to a stunning home.
