Santa Anna Couch
Advantages
- Fine textured lawn blade,
- Suitable for areas that receive full Sun,
- Extremely hard wearing,
- Drought tolerant,
- Excellent self-repairing qualities,
Disadvantages
- Not tolerant to shady areas,
- Goes dormant and brown during Winter months,
- High thatch build up,
- Requires high level of maintenance,
‘Santa Anna Couch’ is ideally suited to areas that receive at least 6 hours of full Sun every day. Santa Anna is fast growing during the warm weather, producing a high thatch, therefore requires mowing regularly during Summer to keep it under control; often twice a week. This roll out lawn is not suitable for areas that receive prolonged periods of shade or in colder climates as it will lose it’s bright green colour quickly.
Windsor Green Couch
Advantages
- Soft, semi-dwarf couch,
- Slower growing – requires less mowing,
- Low thatch production,
- Drought tolerant,
- Retains colour all year round,
- Good self-repairing qualities.
Disadvantages
- Not ideal for very shady areas,
- Suitable for medium level traffic.
‘Windsor Green Couch’ is a semi dwarf couch roll out lawn that requires less water and maintenance than Santa Anna, ideally suited to medium traffic and front garden areas, tolerating Adelaide Winter months far better too.
Sir Walter Buffalo
Advantages
- Keeps green all year round,
- Superior wear tolerance in high traffic areas,
- Excellent self-repair properties,
- Low thatch level reduces mowing requirements,
- Drought tolerant,
- Fungus resistant and herbicide tolerant.
Disadvantages
- Not ideal for very shady areas,
- Moderately invasive,
‘Sir Walter Buffalo’ is a soft leaf buffalo roll out lawn that is suited to high traffic areas even during the Winter months as it keeps green all year round. We recommend using Sir Walter Buffalo in full Sun to partial Sunny areas. Sir Walter is also a good choice if you have dogs.
Kings Pride Buffalo
Advantages
- Ideal for full Sun,
- Ideal for heavy shaded areas,
- Very low maintenance,
- High tolerance to herbicides,
- Drought tolerant,
- Keeps colour all year round.
Disadvantages
- Quite invasive,
‘Kings Pride Buffalo’ is a premium, soft blade roll out lawn that can be laid all year round, suitable for the Summer Sun or heavy shaded areas, requiring less maintenance and fertilising, so would be our recommendation for areas that receive a lot of time in the shade; especially under trees. Kings Pride is another instant lawn that is well suited to exposure to dogs.
Roll out lawns are a natural turf that do require regular maintenance to keep them looking good all year round; some more than others. While the 2 buffalo varieties; Sir Walter and Kings Pride do out perform the 2 couch varieties, they are more aggressive and invasive, so care should be taken when laying them near flowers by using a good edging material or by sepearting the two areas with a retaining wall.
If time is against you, consider the range of synthetic grass options which require less maintenance and are very natural looking.
